From a career spanning the Swiss lakes to the English Riviera – husband-and-wife team Bernd and Sharon Wolf are now bringing their unique talent and years of experience in the high-end hospitality industry to Birkenshaw in West Yorkshire by opening a brand new bar and restaurant – Grand Cru.
Bernd, originally from Bavaria, is classically trained and has worked in Michelin-Starred and award-winning restaurants across Europe, such as the five-star Langham Hotel in London. Sharon has also worked for award-winning restaurants, including the gourmet restaurant at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland.
Before making the long-awaited move north to West Yorkshire, Bernd and Sharon achieved their long-standing ambition to open their own, first restaurant – eventually securing the ideal property in Torquay, South Devon.
At the Orange Tree Restaurant, just a stone’s throw away from Torquay Harbour on the English Riviera, the couple quickly established a first-class reputation and were soon recognised and recommended by The Good Food Guide and Michelin.
Owning and running their first restaurant venture for over eleven years, they also achieved the Les Routiers’ Restaurant of the Year award and Gold status at the Fine Dining Restaurant of South Devon Hospitality Awards. The South Coast’s loss is now Birkenshaw’s gain – and Grand Cru promises to be one of the most sparkling jewels in Yorkshire’s culinary crown.
Grand Cru is a luxurious and high-end restaurant that has breathed new life into one of Birkenshaw’s most prominent but run-down buildings.
Bernd and Sharon have worked with local architects, designers and craftsmen to transform the former Co-op supermarket building into a luxury eaterie, offering a grand dining experience.
Months of meticulous planning and renovation work are now paying dividends, as the building has been transformed into a large, spacious restaurant offering the very best in local cuisine.
